At WaterRoofs, our commitment to sustainable architecture drives us to seek out cutting-edge materials that align with our environmental values. A prime example of this is our collaboration with UHCS (Ustinov Hoffmann Construction System), a Swiss company renowned for its pioneering use of recycled PET in construction.

The Advantages of Recycled PET in Construction

PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is a synthetic material widely used in various industries, notably in beverage bottles. Its high recyclability and robust mechanical properties make it an excellent candidate for sustainable construction materials. By upcycling PET waste, UHCS not only addresses plastic pollution but also provides durable and eco-friendly building solutions.

The environmental benefits of using recycled PET (rPET) are substantial. A study conducted by denkstatt GmbH revealed that rPET results in 79% lower CO₂ emissions compared to virgin PET, with a carbon footprint of 0.45 kg CO₂ equivalent per kilogram of rPET, versus 2.15 kg CO₂ equivalent for new material.  Additionally, refillable PET bottles have been shown to reduce the carbon footprint by up to 50%, conserving raw materials and decreasing greenhouse gas emissions.

WaterRoofs' Integration of UHCS Materials

In partnership with UHCS, WaterRoofs incorporates recycled PET into our evaporative roof tiles. These tiles are engineered to mimic natural forest evaporation, releasing up to 750 liters of water per square meter annually back into the atmosphere. This process aids in reducing urban heat island effects and supports local precipitation cycles. The integration of UHCS materials enhances the durability and sustainability of our roofing systems, ensuring they contribute positively to the environment throughout their lifecycle.

A Unified Vision for Sustainable Construction

The synergy between WaterRoofs and UHCS exemplifies how innovative materials and design can converge to create solutions that address multiple environmental challenges. By transforming waste into valuable construction materials, we not only reduce landfill dependency but also promote energy-efficient and climate-resilient building practices. This collaboration underscores our shared vision of building in harmony with nature, paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient built environment.
